The Mouse, The Bird, and The Sausage

Reading at Book Klub, an incredibly fun comedy show hosted by Sofiya Alexandra and Doug Mellard at Stories Books and Cafe in Echo Park.  Comedians read and riff on "serious literature," from elementary school diaries to Juggalo poetry.  I'm reading the fairy tale "The Mouse, The Bird, and The Sausage" and talking about awesome old-timey parenting techniques.

"I Wish I Got To Hear Summer Read More Often!"

If this sounds like you, I've got some good news!  Some events this month:

1.  Thursday, November 15. Where Eagles Dare.  I'll be doing a brief sketch at this otherwise-excellent comedy show.  8pm at the Little Modern Theater, 6476 Santa Monica Blvd.

2.  Friday, November 16. Not Too Shabby.  Same sketch, but very late at night.  Midnight at Upright Citizens Brigade, 5919 Franklin Ave.

3.  Sunday, November 18. Never Have I Ever.  I'll be reading an essay, but so will a lot of other people! Like my awesome friend Sarah Tomlinson, plus Jennie Ketcham, Mishka Shubaly, Anthony Miller, and Eric Stolze. There will be snacks. 5pm at 826LA, 1714 West Sunset Blvd.

4. Friday, November 23. Book Klub.  A comedy show where funny people read serious things.  I'll be presenting the footnotes to Herodotus' Histories.  It'll be funnier than that sounds.  8pm at 1716 West Sunset Blvd.

5.  Monday, December 3. Another Hot Dish!  Where I'll be reading an essay (or short story) in the company of my friends J. Ryan Stradal, Amy Robb, Jillian Lauren, Julie Gordon,Wendy Molyneux, and Rico Gagliano, plus friend-to-be Lauren Eggert-Crowe.  More snacks.  8pm at 826LA, 1714 West Sunset Blvd.

Survival Swimming

"You know how you teach a preschooler to swim? Well, for starters, you take away their foam noodle."

I'm talking about Beatrice (and zombies) on The Nervous Breakdown.
